Legal Framework

The legal framework for agrivoltaics is complex and is formed by various regulations and laws. Please note that for the complete and up-to-date legal framework and detailed information, direct access to the Fraunhofer ISE guide or consultation with a specialist renewable energy lawyer is recommended.

Agrivoltaics Guide

Our guideline of the Fraunhofer ISE adresses the legal framework for agrivoltaics in Germany. The focus is on presenting the possibilities of how agrivoltaics projects can be realized under the existing legal conditions. In particular, compatibility with the Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG), the directives for EU agricultural funding and the German Building Code (BauGB) is emphasized.

Anyone interested in the use of agrivoltaics and wanting to find out more about the legal framework is recommended to consult the Fraunhofer ISE guide directly to gain practical advice on how agrivoltaics projects can be implemented in accordance with the legal requirements in Germany.

Collaboration & Current Information on the Legal Framework of Agrivoltaics

We at Fraunhofer ISE work together with Becker Büttner Held (bbh), Kehl University of Applied Sciences and the Environmental Energy Law Foundation on the legal framework of agrivoltaics.

One result of this collaboration is a workshop held at regular intervals by Jens Vollprecht (Dipl.-Forstw. Univ., lawyer, partner bbh) and Dr. Max Trommsdorff (Group leader of Agrivoltaics at Fraunhofer-Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE). These workshops deal with the latest legal changes.

Follow the Agrivoltaics Event Calendar, News and Newsletter to make sure you don't miss these exciting workshops! In addition, current changes are addressed and discussed in these information services.
